Join us in 2018 for our BTEI Training Programmes and gain a Major Award at QQI Level 4 in Horticulture.

Frequency: Mondays & Fridays
Time: 9:30 am – 4:00pm   each day
Location CAMCAS, Daisyhill, Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan
Qualification Major Award at QQI Level 4 in Horticulture

This part time course is held at our 2-acre facility in Ballyconnell. The course includes classroom instruction, in-field training, project work and hands-on experience in the gardens, greenhouse, polytunnel, orchard, and allotments area.


This course is designed for people who have a strong interest in horticulture and gardening. On completion, learners will have the knowledge, skills and attitudes to follow a career or pursue further education in Horticulture.


All learners are supported in identifying their individual learning needs. Learners are encouraged to develop to their maximum potential at their own pace in a supported learning environment of equality and inclusion.




Individuals who want to gain the Major Award at QQI Level 4 in Horticulture must complete 8 QQI modules.


Certified modules include:

  • Plant Identification Care & Maintenance
  • Safe Horticultural Practices
  • Work Experience
  • Communications
  • Growing Fruit
  • Growing Vegetables
  • Establishing Trees & Shrubs
  • Plant Propagation

Non certified modules to include:

  • Enterprise Development – From seed to Market
  • Safe Pass
  • Manual Handling
  • Work Placement


  • Priority will be given to those in receipt of a Social Protection payment.
  • Priority will be given to people aged between 16 and 35.
  • Priority will be given to people who have less than a leaving certificate.


We provide a training allowance, personal protective equipment and industry certification for gaining employment in the horticulture sector.

We also support our learners to seek employment by providing them with a professional CV, IT training to successfully complete job applications and we liaise with a designated Adult Guidance Counsellor. Each learner participates in a four-week work placement in the sector.
